I have experienced a problems with Windows XP where the maximum number of open windows at the same time is limited to an amount which seems rediculously low considering the fact that I have 2 gigabytes of ram! After some googling, I found the solution on some dude named Ohad Israeli's website. After performing the registry updates described in the aforementioned link, I no longer experience the annoying max. number of open windows issue!
Note: I actually used different values than suggested by Ohad Israeli; I used SharedSection=1024,20480,768, rather than SharedSection=1024,3072:
Apparently this problem also exists in Windows 2003 (Win2k3) and Vista; Yuck!
Linux for the desktop is just looking hotter an' hotter (;
